The use of capital punishment for kidnappers in Imo State
will soon be a reality.
This disclosure was made by the Imo State Deputy governor,
Sir Jude Agbaso while briefing journalists shortly after the Expanded EXCO
meeting at Government House, Owerri today.
Speaking during the briefing, the deputy governor said that
the menace of kidnappers and other forms of criminals will no longer be
tolerated by the government, hence the decision to use capital punishment
against any body found guilty of kidnapping.
Concerning the 4th Tier Government proposed by
the present administration, Sir Agbaso said that some civil servants will be
posted to the Communities to work for a period of six months after which they
will be transferred back to the State capital. He said the administration of
the Community Council Government will be driven by Commissioners while graduate
appointees will be posted to the Community Council offices to work as State Liason
Officers.
Speaking further at the briefing, Sir Agbaso said that the
State government’s Commercialization policy is still on course, adding that all
commercialized ministries, agencies and parastatals will be driven through a central
body called Imo Group of Companies.
According to Sir Agbaso, roads construction in the State
will be decentralized such that there will be three divisions in the
implementation. Said he; “the EXCO has resolved that in the area of roads
construction, roads will be divided into 3 sectors, namely; City roads, Rural
roads and Taskforce roads. The responsibility of ensuring proper
constructing the City roads will be vested on the Deputy Governor while that of
the rural roads will be vested on a committee to be headed by the Speaker of
the State House of Assembly with the Transition Committee Chairmen and members
of the State House of Assembly as members.
The Taskforce roads will be monitored jointly by the Deputy Governor and
the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.”
He said a total of 19 kilometers of roads each will be
completed in the 27 Local Government Areas soon.
Also present at the briefing is the Imo State Commissioner
for Information, Mr Chinedu Offor, the Speaker of the Imo State House of
Assembly, Mr. Ben Uwajimogu and a host of others.
