IMO GOVT TO ADOPT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR KIDNAPPERS



The use of capital punishment for kidnappers in Imo State will soon be a reality.
This disclosure was made by the Imo State Deputy governor, Sir Jude Agbaso while briefing journalists shortly after the Expanded EXCO meeting at Government House, Owerri today.
Speaking during the briefing, the deputy governor said that the menace of kidnappers and other forms of criminals will no longer be tolerated by the government, hence the decision to use capital punishment against any body found guilty of kidnapping.
Concerning the 4th Tier Government proposed by the present administration, Sir Agbaso said that some civil servants will be posted to the Communities to work for a period of six months after which they will be transferred back to the State capital. He said the administration of the Community Council Government will be driven by Commissioners while graduate appointees will be posted to the Community Council offices to work as State Liason Officers.
Speaking further at the briefing, Sir Agbaso said that the State government’s Commercialization policy is still on course, adding that all commercialized ministries, agencies and parastatals will be driven through a central body called Imo Group of Companies.
According to Sir Agbaso, roads construction in the State will be decentralized such that there will be three divisions in the implementation. Said he; “the EXCO has resolved that in the area of roads construction, roads will be divided into 3 sectors, namely; City roads, Rural roads and Taskforce roads.   The responsibility of ensuring proper constructing the City roads will be vested on the Deputy Governor while that of the rural roads will be vested on a committee to be headed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly with the Transition Committee Chairmen and members of the State House of Assembly as members.  The Taskforce roads will be monitored jointly by the Deputy Governor and the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.”
He said a total of 19 kilometers of roads each will be completed in the 27 Local Government Areas soon.
Also present at the briefing is the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Chinedu Offor, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Ben Uwajimogu and a host of others.
