IMO GOVERNOR CREATES NEW MINISTRY AS EXPERTS WARN IMOLITES OF IMPENDING FLOOD AND WINDSTORMS

Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has approved the creation of the Ministry for Community Development and Chieftaincy affairs to fast track development in the rural areas of the State.


This development was made known to news men by the Imo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources,  Mrs Adaora Ijezie shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Sam Mbakwe Expanded EXCO Chambers yesterday.  
Speaking during the press briefing, the Commissioner stated that government also proposed to partner with foreign nations and some corporate organizations to establish more universities in the State.
She said the 27% recurrent and 73% Capital Budget Expenditure adopted by the present administration will be implemented with prudence and commitment to duty.

In another development, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Barrister  Ekweremba Emmanuel has alerted the government and people of Imo State of the possibility of a heavy rainfall that may lead to flood and wind storm in some parts of the State during the present raining season.

According to the Commissioner, the information was received from the Federal Ministry of Environment.
Barrister Ekweremba, used the opportunity to advice the people of Imo State to be aware of the impending rainfall so as to take urgent steps to avoid unprecedented damages to their environment.

He enjoined Imolites to clean up drainages, and water-ways, create water basin for flood as well as use sand bags to checkmate the flood in erosion prone areas.
