In continuation of his interaction with the Local Government
Areas in Imo State, the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has rubbed minds with leaders and political stakeholders from Ngor Okpala Local Government
Area.
Speaking during the interactive session held at the Sam
Mbakwe Expanded EXCO Chambers last week, Government House, the governor thanked the
people of Ngor-Okpala for the heroic role they played during the last
gubernatorial election in Imo State and assured them that he will not
disappoint them. He recalled the events preceding the last governorship
election and assured them that he will fulfill all the promises he made to them
during the period when he campaigned for the office of the governor.
Responding to a request by Bishop Titus Akannabu, the
governor said that the State government does not have the powers to create new
Local Governments. However, he advised the stakeholders to prepare a formal
request for a new Local Government
Area which will be presented to
the Constitution Review Committee of the Federal Government.
Speaking further at the meeting, governor Okorocha urged
them to embrace the 4th Tier Government proposed by his
administration, adding that the idea will go a long way to liberate the entire
people of Imo State from poverty. He offered to provide them with 5 million
naira to be used for agricultural purpose but insisted that they should provide
25 % of the said amount as counterpart fund.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to enforce the
planting of palm trees by every indigene of Imo State, adding that his
government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of the
Federal Republic of Kosovo with a view to exporting fresh food items to that
country from Imo State.
To further reassure them of his commitment transform their
Local Government Area, he disclosed plans by the government to build one of the
best universities in the world at Ngor –Okpala in partnership with Loyola
Jesuit University based in the United States of America.
In a response, one of the biggest political heavy weights in
Ngor- Okpala Local Government Area, retired Colonel Lambert Iheanacho urged the
governor to ensure that a high political office is given to an indigene of
Ngor-Okpala in the year 2015.
Also in a response, the Chief Executive Officer of ABJ
Consolidated Ltd, USA, Dr Bona Nlemadim asked the governor to establish an
additional general hospital in Ngor-Okpala so as to meet the needs of the
people.
Dignitaries present at the occasion include the member
representing Ngor-Okpala in the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Emeka Nwofor,
the Imo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister
Soronnadi Njoku, the Transition Committee Chairman for Ngor-Okpala Local
Government Area, Mr, Tobi Young Ekechi and a host of others.
