Imo can host 2014 NBA Conference, says Okorocha

The Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that Imo State is secure and has all the facilities needed to host the 2014 Nigerian Bar Association Conference.

He made this known at the Government House, Owerri last week, during a meeting with the President of Nigeria Bar Association, Barrister Okey Wali (SAN) and other top officials of the Association who came to Imo State to access the facilities on ground for the hosting of the 2014 NBA Conference.

Speaking during the meeting, the state governor named some of the facilities in the State for the conference which include the newly built International Conference Centre and many other conference halls in Owerri as well as numerous hotels of five-star standard.  Above all, he mentioned the hospitable and secure environment of the state which is devoid of kidnappings and many other social vices.

Said he; “hosting this conference will provide the opportunity to tell the world what we have been doing” “we want to share with you the new vision of leadership which is anchored on the Fourth Tier Government otherwise known as the Community Government Council (CGC) introduced by the present administration in the state.  

He pointed out that the CGC had brought tremendous development in the state such as revival of the economy bringing governance to the grass-roots, promoting culture and enrichment of the agricultural sector of the state.

He said the four-year strategic budget plan of his administration has enthroned rapid development, adding that the use of cultural means in curbing crime by his administration had gone a long way in reducing crime to the barest minimum.

He called on the group to consider the vision of the Rescue Mission Government which include the CGC, the Four year budget plan, the free education policy from primary to tertiary level and other innovation brought in by his administration into their conference programme to enable such innovations to be adopted and replicated in other states of the federation.

Speaking earlier the President of Nigeria Bar Association Bar Okey Wali (SAN) said that they were on tour of states with a view to deciding the venue for the hosting of the 2014 annual Bar Conference which will come up in August this year.

He disclosed that the conference was about the largest annual gathering of lawyers anywhere in the world with about 10,000 participants, pointing out that the purpose of their visit was to ascertain the level of preparedness of the state in the areas of accommodation, recreational facilities among others which will be reported back to their National Executive Committee in charge of the Conference for selection and final approval.
