Determined to encourage a healthier relationship among the teacher, parent and the child as well as ensure qualitative education, the Imo State government has launched the Parent/Teacher/Child Assessment and Mentoring (PTCAM) Programme.

The programme which was fashioned to create a platform for collaboration between the teachers, the parents and the school children is anchored on the continuous assessment on the welfare of the children with a view to ensuring their proper upbringing while ‘Mentors’ of the schools are people who volunteered to provide moral and financial support to pupils and students and regularly visit the schools to discuss their common problems.

Speaking during the launch of the programme held at the Owerri City School recently, Governor Okorocha appealed to the Teachers, Principals and other Heads of schools in the State to keep their communication line with the parents and their pupils in order to know the position of the child at any given time, adding that the State government introduced the payment of N500 and N300 monthly stipends to secondary and primary school students respectively in order to appreciate and motivate the school children.
He further charged them to ensure that every child gets the school sandals, canvas, stockings and other materials donated by the State government.

Adding his voice, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, enjoined the pupils to go through their school with resolve and determination to overcome every challenge of life.
He assured them that with determination and hard-work, they will achieve success in their life endeavours.

Earlier, the wife of the State Governor, Her Excellency, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha expressed joy that Imo children are being positioned to be future leaders by the present administration and commended the pupils and students for their good conduct.
She appealed to parents and teachers to collaborate with government in ensuring a better welfare of the Imo child.

Responding on behalf of the students of Owerri City School, Miss Blessing Nwele thanked the State government for the love shown to pupils and students by providing free education, school uniforms, desks and payment of monthly stipends. She said that they will reciprocate the gesture by studying hard and being law abiding.

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Anwuka were inaugurated as Mentors of Owerri City School and Township/Development Primary Schools respectively.
