The Chairman of the
Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Imo State, Sir Innocent Igwe, on behalf
of the entire members of the union, has
appealed to Governor Rochas Okorocha to consider a 2nd term bid
as Governor of Imo State come 2015 to ensure the sustainability of projects
initiated by the Rescue Mission government.
He made this appeal
yesterday at the Government House, Owerri during a press briefing organized by
the Imo State government.

Speaking during the
occasion, Sir Innocent Igwe said that the outing has afforded journalists an
opportunity of getting first-hand information on the activities of the State government.
He commended governor
Okorocha for the giant strides made by his administration in the areas of free
education, massive roads construction and infrastructural transformation across
the 27 Local Government Areas of the State.
Responding, the Imo
State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha attributed part of the successes recorded
by his administration to prudent management of State resources and blockage of
loopholes created by corruption.
He noted that over 1,000
verifiable projects have been completed by his administration, adding that that
many of them are under reported by journalists.
He maintained that the
achievements made by the present administration were borne out of his vision
and passion to give lasting legacy to the State.
He pointed out that
government has saved over One billion naira (N1b) that was hitherto used for
printing of bill boards and has fully restored the confidence of the masses in
government.
The governor expressed
concern that many youths are unconcerned about skill acquisition and encouraged
Imo youths to seize advantage of the newly established Imo College of Advanced
Professional Studies (ICAPS) to acquire skills that would make then self-employed.
He noted that apart from
the creation of 25,000 thousand jobs by his government, efforts were also
geared towards reviving the moribund industries in the State to create more
jobs and reduce the rate of unemployment in the State.
The Governor further
disclosed plans to bring in industries from Turkey while encouraging local industrialists
to invest in the State.
He said that his government
has completed 3 inland bridges within the capital city while 2 new bridges are
on-going to ensure a hitch free traffic in the State capital.
Speaking further at the
occasion, Governor Okorocha stressed that kidnapping and other criminal
activities have reduced drastically in the State and commended the security
operatives for their gallantry.
He noted that the
introduction of the Community Government Council (CGC) in the State has given
the rural populace a sense of belonging as well as boosted the agricultural
sector of the economy.
Also present at the
occasion were journalists from all the metropolitan newspapers in Imo State as
well as correspondents from some highbrow newspapers in Nigeria.
