STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

RT. HON. (DR) ACHO IHIM
SPEAKER, IMHA, 2015 TILL DATE/ Member representing Okigwe State Constituency

- CITATION

Early Life
Acho Ihim was born in Umuonyeneri Village of Umualumoke in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, to the family of Rev. C. A and Evang. Bessy Ihim in 1962. His name Acho means “That which is desired”.

He was raised in a Monogamous family, and was the first child born into the family of seven, symbolizing perfection. Cyprian, Acho’s father was God’s great shepherd of the Assemblies of God Church, whose life was semi-nomadic, as he traversed communities and states of the old eastern Nigeria, preaching the gospel and raising sheep for God. Rev. Ihim was a complete man of God who did not allow earthly ventures to distract his devotion for God. Before his demise in 1990, he had given out his only residential village house to the church of God, using same to bequeath an altar of mercy and general protection to his family. As the first son of a reverend gentleman of the old, Acho inherited the fundamental apostolic virtues of his father and imbibed core Christian recitals, which ultimately became the springboard of his growth and development. However, he did not directly take after his father’s ministerial calling but had an orgasmic passion for human capital development hence his penchant for teaching and establishment of educational institutions.

Education promotion became his preoccupation until he veered into Politics in 2002 following his appointment as the Chairman, Transition Committee, Okigwe Local Government Area.

Early Academic Career.
The itinerant nature of his father’s job took the young Acho to Orba Community in Nsukka of Enugu State where he had his Primary Education at the Union Primary School, Orba, Nsukka and later proceeded to Oboloafor Town in the same Nsukka, particularly, the Oboloafor Boys Secondary School for his post-primary education and obtained the requisite West African School Certificate & General Certificate of Education that catapulted him to the Imo State University where he obtained a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Government and Public Administration in 2008. While in service of his fatherland and humanity, he sought for and secured admission into the Pacific Western University, U.S.A, where in 2011 he bagged a Master Of Science Degree in Public Administration.

Early Political Career
The combined effects of travelling and relocating to places with his father gave him early exposure. His Christian upbringing, educational endeavours, humanitarian services and the realization that his ancient city of Okigwe, remained the only old provincial headquarters in Nigeria yet to become a state capital spurred him into politics. He formed the “Joy Political Organization” in 2001 to advance the welfare needs of his people of Okigwe  LGA, which foundation led him into the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, with his eyes at the Chairmanship Position of his Local Government Area. This paid off when the then Government of Achike Udenwa reckoned with his popularity and appointed him, Chairman, Transition committee, Okigwe LGA in 2002. He was later elected Executive Chairman, Okigwe LGA in 2004 which provided him with the clamoured podium to build Classroom Blocks in almost all the political wards of the Local Government Area. He also built Bridges to facilitate smooth movements and conveyance of agricultural produce in and out of the LGA. He further constructed Health Centers to boast healthy living, made Donations to many individuals and homes, and created different empowerment-driven committees that endeared him into the hearts of Okigwe peoples. He exuded peace, radiated love and elicited huge public confidence. He became a metaphor for financial liberalization and his name enveloped the lips of Ndi-Okigwe, the atmosphere under his reign was simply jubilant and enjoyable. No wonder, in 2005, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), set up a National Merit Award Committee, to assess performances of Chairmen of Local Governments in Nigeria. The Committee turned in a report with Acho Ihim as “The best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria”. In the same vein, in 2006, the Senate Committee on Local Governments and States in Nigeria, revalidated this feat, declaring Hon. Ihim, “The Accomplished and Most Outstanding Executive Chairman in Nigeria”. These high profile awards spurred him to seek re-election for same position but was discouraged due to the prevalent zoning political culture in Okigwe Local Government Area.

Nevertheless, Okigwe people are known for their deep consideration, this they demonstrated in 2011 when they compensated Acho’s visible goodwill with a resounding victory in the House of Assembly Election, a welcome development of sort. In that 7th House, he became the Deputy Majority Leader, and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Due Process and Inter-parliamentary Affairs. The 2015 General Election was a turning point in the political career of Hon. Acho Ihim, as he became the first Okigwe Man to be re-elected into the same position, House of Assembly, without Interruption, and it came to pass.

In furtherance of Ihim’s public confidence, his colleagues in the 7th House, at the twilight of their tenure, passed what looked like a vote of overwhelming confidence on Ihim, when they unanimously resolved to recall the ranking rule of the House, ostensibly to favour his emergence as Speaker of the 8th House, 3rd Assembly. The new members who already knew Ihim’s knack for peace, accommodation, excellence and liberalization, did not have difficulty adopting this rule, while His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State Governor, a man of vision, saw Ihim’s heart of gold and graciously gave his fatherly blessings. One can validly state without equivocation that Ihim’s Speakership of the Imo State House of Assembly is a product of the strong confidence of his former members, unwavering support of his present colleagues, practical blessing of the Imo State Governor, and the overflowing grace of God Almighty. By divine permutation therefore, Rt. Hon.  Acho Ihim, whose father, had seven children, was in his first term elected into the 7th House, and was assigned the 7th number plate of the Assembly and finally became the 7th Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.

In acknowledgement of his education development efforts, the Romania University, California USA, honoured him with a Doctorate Degree.

As a prophet whose prophecy began at home, his people of Okigwe conferred on him in 2003, the aristocratic title of Onwa (The Moon) Okigwe of the Okigwe Ancient Supreme Council. This took place after he had been bestowed with the Ochiriozuo (Sponsor/Trainer-General) Okigwe title in 2002. Later in 2006, he was decorated with the Mmirioma (Good Water) Okigwe title, and in 2010 he became coronated with yet another prestigious title of Nnu Kerikeri (Crystallizing Salt). He therefore, through these titles, carries on his shoulders the insignia of The Moon, The Trainer-General, The Water and Salt of his people.

Marriage/Procreation Jurisdiction
On his Marriage and Procreation turf, the towering Acho Ihim, at the moment, has yet an adorable woman of virtue in his life, Olaedo Ihim, and six wonderful children (4 boys, 2 girls).

In a historical age when a worrisome number of lawmakers in the parliament “might” at most be described as half-baked, legislatively clueless and lacking in knowledge of jurisprudence and the essences and basis for legislation, in a country where few with a mere degree parade themselves as geniuses of legislation, here comes a young man who rose from grass to grace and from poverty to affluence, yet is not just grounded with the rudiments and sagacity for legislation but is indeed, almost as qualified to be a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), in Law and indeed understands the essences and basis of legislation and representative government.

The saying that most great men are products of humble background is even more evident in the case of Barr Innocent Arthur Egwim. Innocent Arthur Egwim in a rather simple term can be likened to a man who rose from obscurity to an appreciable level of success, hence his GRASS to GRACE tale. Innocent Arthur Egwim was born of a humble background, albeit intelligent and having love for learning in his childhood days, the young Innocent could only manage to complete his secondary schooling due to financial constrains. Remarkably, he gained admission to study law at the UNN in 1982, but could not pursue this dream due to the family’s financial challenges, and this led to his “foray”, one might say into business. Yet a successful businessman, Innocent Arthur Egwim never relented to demonstrate his love and passion for education and service to his people.

The quest for success made young Innocent travel to Western Nigeria. Howbeit, even as a successful business man of international repute, Innocent Arthur Egwim did not let go of his life passions. His love for education and learning rekindled and this is made more evident by the fact that he is a lawyer, called to the Nigerian Bar. Hear him: “poverty should never be a barrier to education or anything, a fact to which I am a living proof. It was my undying love for education that led me back to the university at the age of 40. I read law, went to Law School, took a masters’ degree and I’m currently a doctorial student of Law at UNILAG”- The Dawn Magazine.

As the saying goes that “charity begins at home”, Innocent Arthur Egwim’s second passion which consists on his impeccable philanthropy
and desire to serve his people made him accept to return from the UK and take the position of the President General of the Isiokpo Autonomous community, a position which saw him attract meaningful community development programmes as he tirelessly worked in partnership with the CGC of the Rescue Mission Policy of the State Government.

Having served his people diligently and as a true believer of the Rescue Mission government of his Excellency ,Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha and having attracted many developmental giant strides so numerous to mention here, the peoples’ servant as he will rather choose to be called.

Member representing Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency

Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Uche Ejiogu has a lot of sparkling accolades attached to her name due to her sterling administrative acumen from previous positions of work before she found her way into the legislative chamber of the state government. Her name is a house hold name and very much environmental friendly. No Imolite will forget in a hurry the hub of governor Owelle Rochas okorocha's free education programme (SUBEB) and the tier of commissionership for Education under the government of Okorocha's first term, where her name roared for the joy of the poor and the downtrodden citizens of Imo state who then could not afford school fees for their children. This woman was a member of that impeccable squad that laid the foundation for the first ever free education scheme since Imo State was created in 1976.

Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Uche Ejiogu was a roaming talent that was discovered by that government. Her name now rolls in tandem with such respectable tags as; Honorable, Ambassador, Doctor and Chief among others which she acquired through serious study, strenuous hardwork, dedication to duty as well as strict compliance to the rules of engagement among others. To her, one cardinal attribute of a clear mind is the courage to speak the truth. She is a highly disciplined mother and grandmother who cannot commiserate with those displaying any crass act of disloyalty. While she does not believe in announcing her visits, she is not a slave to protocol either. She identifies with the youth, the elderly and the poor.
There are lots of honors, awards and titles in her bulging briefcase before her recent voyage into the legislative chamber of the Imo State House of Assembly.
Hon. Dr.(Mrs) Uche Ejiogu is indeed a woman of many distinguished feathers rolled into one. It all depends on which-ever one wishes to attach to her name while calling, but she prefers to be known and addressed as Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Uche Ejiogu,

FAMILY BACKGROUND
Hon.Dr.(Mrs) Uche Ejiogu was born in 1966 to the family of Mr, Boniface Mbachu of the blessed memory and Mrs. Cecilia Mbachu of Ndiowere in Orlu Local Government of Imo State. She is the fifth in the family of eight children. Her father gave her the name, Uchennaya, (not minding the femininity) because of her natural sturdy, resilience as well as her high degree of commitment to any work, like him. She does all her things quite different from her other siblings.

However, with time Uchennaya decided to shorten her name to Uche, but perhaps unknown to her, the simple, flamboyant, amiable and beautiful Uche was still trailed by the same fearless and unbiased stuff of her father. Uche manifested a clear sign of distinction from her childhood. Her present commitment to duty and achievements despite her poor family background can indeed attest to this fact.

In 1984, she married to Chief (sir) Raja Cletus Iwuchukwu Ejiogu, a former registrar of the famous Imo state university, Owerri. Chief (sir) Raja C. I. Ejiogu hailed from Umuezeala Abueke in Ihitte/uboma local Government of Imo state. The family is blessed with children. Unfortunately  however, Hon. Dr. Uche Ejiogu is now a widow having lost her darling husband who sponsored her  to the height of Ph.D degree in the University and gave her all other supports and encouragements that aided to her present enviable position. He died in March 2015 due to protracted illness. May his soul rest in perfect peace, Amen!

Member representing Njaba State Constituency

ACADEMIC HISTORY
Amb. Uju Onwudiwe’s academic history sets her apart as a personality in all ramifications. She is a product of the Prestigious Queen’s College, Enugu. Furthermore, she studied Accountancy at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) bagging   Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc. Hons.) and Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree, from University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC), a great lioness indeed. I will quickly add that she is still striving for higher academic accolades, onshore and offshore, not just for the sake of qualifications, but to be able to offer qualitative representation and proffer rare leadership sagacity going forward.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Igolo is a seasoned administrator and a financial expert who grew in corporate ranks and created performance records. Having worked through various cadres and ranks through Arab contractors, Mefor Systems Inc. and Nnamdi Nwakwesi & Co., she no doubt was drilled and equipped for impactful leadership and representative task. This is an eloquent indicator that she is not a political jobber but a polished gift and indeed an answer to a long-time prayer of Njaba and indeed the entire Orlu (Imo West) Senatorial zone for a selfless, compassionate, god-fearing, humane, intelligent, team-player, respectful, humble and focused leader. Today she is roaring where it matters, at the political epicentre of the Eastern Heartland, the hallowed chambers of Imo State House of Assembly, Owerri.
CORE VALUES
Hon. Uju has always maintained that her core leadership values deemphasizes self and promotes the needs of the people; the people-centric attitude. To her, nothing is worth celebrating except to rejoice that a needy has received concrete assistance to alleviate sufferings, end squalor and poverty, and heave a sigh of relief; living a quality life. She is a woman with compassionate heart and true human value without indulging in societal stratification aimed at identifying class. She indeed is a friend of the low, the high and the mighty… A FRIEND OF ALL
CORE FAMILY VALUES
When one focuses on her sterling qualities as a leader, the basic ingredients of true values may be lost. It is pertinent to note that Hon. Amb. Uju Onwudiwe’s humility and sense of purpose is a product of an entrenched core family value. She hails from a strong Christian home, a good and devoted wife, a good mother, wonderful aunt, relating excellently with all around her, humorous and a personal friend to all.
In her biological children, one finds the manifestation of a devoted mother, a true friend of her children and an inspiration to all. To all her children in Njaba, we have a caring mother; the mother who truly has a large and loving heart. She indeed is a star per excellence.

EXPLOITS AT THE ASSEMBLY SO FAR
Since the inauguration of the 8th Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Amb. Uju Jovita Onwudiwe has left no one in doubt of her zeal, determination and strides, to put Njaba conspicuously on the state map. She has been working tirelessly to ensure that the concerns of the people are given requisite visibility and attention. Having moved important motions, initiated a number of significant bills, and contributing to bills and motions in the plenary, she indeed is not a bench-warmer but a committed legislator of high repute. Presently she has a good number of important bills that tend to address poverty alleviation; economic diversification; and public safety, among others.

POLITICAL CREED
Perusing into Igolo’s political convictions, it is her political creed to serve the people diligently and obliterate the scourge of poverty and misery, provide good governance and representation based on Accountability, Transparency and Team work, enhance women and youth empowerment, provide rural infrastructure, be a champion of family values and preservation of societal values, provide basic education and curl child education, integration of community into governance, and fruitful touch on the lives of the physically challenged, in addition to Re-orienting Youths towards Self Reliance/Employment.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, Hon. Amb. Uju Jovita Onwudiwe is a new breed leader, who though has mingled with the political waters, but remains stainless and resolute about minimizing the negative attributes of politics. To her, positive change can be possible where people learn to identify with causes they are fully convinced of; not purely a matter of clannish interest.
