Leaders and political Stakeholders from Owerri-West Local
Government have expressed their satisfaction at the achievements of the Imo
State government led by Governor Rochas Okorocha in the last one year.
Addressing the stakeholders at the Sam Mbakwe Expanded EXCO
Chambers, Government House Owerri yesterday, Governor Okorocha said that no society can grow above their
culture because the culture of any society has a relationship with their God.
He said Owerri-West is blessed by God with rich human and
natural resources, adding that the best way for the LGA to explore their
God-given potentials is for them embrace
the 4th Tier government set up by the present administration in Imo State.
To this end therefore, he requested that they provide 5,000 hectares of
farmland to be used for palm plantation and enjoined every man and woman in the
area to plant palm trees so as to assist in improving the economy of Imo State.
Speaking further at the meeting, the Governor thanked the
people of Owerri-West LGA for the enormous support they gave him during the
last Governorship election in Imo State and assured them that he will not let
them down.
In a response, a woman leader from Owerri-West LGA, Mrs Kate Nwamadi asked the governor to look
into the procedure adopted by government establishments when giving employment
to indigenes of Owerri-West. According to her, the federal government-owned
tertiary institutions located in Owerri-west do not consider the indigenes of the
Local Government Area when employing their staffs.
Also speaking, a frontline politician from Owerri-West LGA,
Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze asked the governor to ensure that the State
government takes over the rubber plantation at Emeabiam and make it more
productive.
Dignitaries present at the meeting were the member
representing Owerri-West in the State House of Assembly, Mr Innocent Eke, the
Imo State Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Barrister(Mrs) Ugochi Okoro,
Chief Levi Oguike and a host of others.
